Budget Tip: Coconut oil

Ok I know – EVERY blogger out there uses coconut oil, loves it and can’t stop writting about it. Which is also how I discovered it.  Now I have tried using it as a hair mask – and to be honest it was rather avarage, it doesn’t work as a quick fix – it has to stay on for hours and hours before you see any result and by then you and your sheets are tired of the smell of Pina Colada.

But it is worth using it on your skalp, I have a horribly dry skalp and have tried tons of pharmacy products with no success and therefor I now religiously massage in the oil and leave it for hours, embracing the hours I have to spend washing it out. Also it is a zillion cheaper than this product, and works much better.

Summary: great for very dry body parts, pretty tedious as a hair mask due to the hours you have to leave it in.

Do you agree?

  1. I use the Vita Coco oil as a mask on dry hair, covered in a plastic bag for about 90 minutes and it works pretty well! I will try it on my scalp though…I normally just coat the ends, as it can be tricky to wash out 🙂

  2. I agree you can’t see instant results on your hair right away but it does work. I have super curly hair and this keeps my hair from breaking and it got so much longer!! I also use it as my moisturizer over my serum 🙂

  3. Coconut oil makes a fabulous makeup remover. I think that as a “hair mask” it’s only good for a one-time use and then it washes out right after without fully sinking in to the cuticle – blahhh bummer. By the way, I’ve nominated you for an award on my page, the Versatile Award + Premio Dardos Award! XO

  4. if you keep the oil in your hair for an hour just, then it will be not be difficult to remove it.also one hour is apt for the nutrients to soak in your hair and scalp.Use it twice a week, you will see the goodness. 🙂

  5. Sorry to disagree, but I’m not among its supporters. I’m not using coconut oil at all, and I find that it clogs the pores too…I’ve been given a luxury version as a present, but the bottle hasn’t been opened yet.
