Rituals Rice Scrub Review

Pros:

Smells very nice.

Cons:

Doesn‘t exfoliate my skin enough.

More:

I like to use my DIY homemade scrubs  but I got this one as a gift from my mum, who loves the smell of everything from Rituals. My first impression was that I too really like the smell of this scrub – despite not really understanding what it smells of – it‘s supposed to smell off “white rice and oriental orange blossom” (which is a pretty weird description since rice doesn‘t really have a smell, does it?). Anyways, a good scrub to me is one that can basically peel my skin off, and this scrub is like a body lotion – soft and pleasant but not real effect. It is nice if you want to have a very very very mild scrub, but if you are looking for some effect and a way to make sure your tan is even this summer this is simply not it. The only positive thing about this scrub is its smell and that you smell pleasant after using it (for those two minutes that the smell lingers on your skin).

L:A Bruket Vildros Body Butter Review

Pros:

Makes my skin silky smooth.

Cons:

Takes a while to get absorbed.

More:

Today‘s theme is roses, and I‘m having a day off so I‘m treating you dear readers to two posts. This body butter which smells of wild roses, is very silky and leaves my skin soft. I like the idea of  body butters which smell fresh but not too sweet, which this one does. It sinks in pretty slowly which is a minus. The smell of roses is very discreet and pleasant, and the butter has the texture of sorbet, and melts into my skin.

Le Petit Marseilles Miel de Lavande Shower Cream Review

Pros:

Cheap and smells great.

Cons:

Can rarely be found outside of France.

More:

I adore this soap. It costs about 2 euro, when bought in France. This particular one smells of lavender and honey, leaves you and your bathroom smelling of sweetness, and does not kill your wallet. I know that some upscale stores sell this brand pricy outside of France, but please dont be tricked, and order it from a friend who is going to Paris rather then killing your wallet.

The soap does not dry out your skin, lathers well and you dont need much.

Rudolph Care: Acai Body Lotion

Pros:

Organic and free from harmful ingredients. Softens and hydrates skin.

Cons:

Glass bottle with pump: Not handy to travel with.

More:

I will start out by repeating what I wrote in an earlier review on a Rudolph Care product:

I have said it before, and I will say it again: I’m a fan of Rudolph Care. I love that they make products without harmful ingredients or chemicals. I think this is something that the entire beauty industry should focus a lot more on: We apply these products to our biggest absorbing organ (our skin) several times a day. I.e. when using products with perfume, chemicals and what-have-you, we feed our body with toxics, and the consequences is starting to show around the world. Okay, enough of me preaching (I just wish there were more ‘healthy’ products out there).

The Acai Body Lotion is a really nice lotion with a light smell. The bottle has a pump function that easily provides me with the lotion I need. The lotion is easy to apply to skin as it is not too thick. The skin is left soft and hydrated without feeling greasy. The Acai berry should help against signs of ageing.

Rudolph Care claims that the lotion can be used for sensitive, irritated and dry skin. Even for skin with a rash. This is also my experience. Here’s an example: My boyfriend and his sister has a tendency to get red spots/rash on their upper arms (I think they’re called something special, but I don’t remember the word). The Rudolph Care Acai Body Lotion is the only lotion that makes that rash go away.

I like to have one lotion that I just know works and that is good for my skin and my health. This one is my favourite when it comes to that, and you can actually use it for your hair if it’s a bit dry. Just apply a little to the ends…

The Body Shop: Spa Wisdom Japan, Yuzu & Rice Body Milk

Pros:

Against animal testing*! Easy to apply with the spray function. Use for summer.

Cons:

A bit thin, doesn’t feel like it goes that much “in depth”.

More:

This body milk smells fresh and is easy to apply, first of all because the bottle has a spray function, second, because it’s a very light cream. I would use this product in the summer when my body needs a light relieving moisturiser that smells fresh and summerly. The smell is a bit too much for me for every-day use.

Another plus is that you support community trade with this product.

*I have to mention that The Body Shop was criticised for selling their products in China, where the government (for reasons I don’t see) requires animal testing. When it came to the media’s attention, Body Shop quickly removed their products from the Chinese shelves (More here and here).

Review of Clarins Moisture-rich body lotion

Pros:

I saw an instant result as my skin stopped peeling off and it sinks in fast.

Cons:

It’s expensive and I don’t smell any shea butter really.

More:

I bought this cream as a part of a Clarins beauty package, so I did not directly make the choice of buying such an expensive body lotion, but the package was on sale and I was after the flash balm. But it turned out to be one of my favourite products this cold winter, a real saviour.

The cream contains shea butter and promises to moisture, nourish and visibly smooth my skin. Blablabla you all say. But surprisingly I can even see the difference between the patches of my skin where the cream has and hasn’t been applied several hours after using it. Since my skin is very dry from the cold climate I live in, its a big plus that this cream can take care of it and make my skin this smooth. Also the lotion sinks in very fast after application and has a very light consistency which makes it easy to apply. About the shea butter smell: there really isn’t one according to me, maybe it’s because i’ve used the shea body butter from Body Shop for so long that it has completely defined my idea of the smell and I don’t accept anything else. But my verdict is still that this lotion smells pleasant but “synthetic”.

This is a luxurious and expensive lotion, that works. But when spending so much money on a product you want it to last forever and the amount you need to cover your whole body will make you finish the bottle in no time.

Crabtree & Evelyn Avocado, Olive and Basil Body Butter

Pros:

Makes your skin soft.

Cons:

The price, value for money and the smell.

More:

I’ll be honest: I bought this one because of the nice package (and since its so expensive I automatically expected it to be a great cream making my skin soft as a baby and to smell fantastic). I was a bit disappointed: yes it makes you skin softer, but it’s a very thick cream therefore you need to use a lot to cover your body, meaning you consume it fast. Since it’s an expensive product I want more for my money. About the smell: avocado, basil  and olive – it smells very “green”, meaning like you just went to a farmers market and bought a lot of basil. This smell is great in the kitchen, but doesn’t really smell nice on me (maybe if you want to attract a gardener…). Note to self: never judge anything by its package ever, no matter how pretty it is.

Review of The Body Shop Shea Body Butter

Pros:

It really does make your skin soft and yummy.

Cons:

The butter only works on medium dry skin. If you are just back from a vacation and want to keep that fading tan you will need something containing more moisture.

More:

The body butter is probably the big breadwinner for Body Shop, and I understand why: it makes your skin soft, smells delicious and is affordable. You only need to apply a small amount for good effect and therefore a butter can last for months.

This particular flavour of the butters, is a good change from all the fruity overdosed butters out there. It made me feel very feminine but at the same time not too girlie. I’ve tried many body lotions and butters and this one has over the years become my absolute favourite. It also becomes a real bargain once bought on sale (january and july)!
