Nubian Heritage Shea Butter Infused with Lemongrass and Tea Tree Review

Pros:Smells lovely and makes my skin very soft.

Cons:

Takes ages to get absorbed and is pretty sticky.

More:

I found this shea butter through my favourite hippie style icon, and ordered one late night on amazon (online shopping is my worst enemy on late weekend nights when I pity myself). Usually I love “smaller” companies, and those who have followed this blog for a while, know that we often feature less known brands in order to promote entrepreneurship (rather then making the big ones even richer). This time I was pretty disappointed though. Reading from the Nubian website, the brand truly have a wonderful story (or a humble beginning as they chose to call it): starting out as street vendors on the street of Harlem, selling black soap, having no jobs after college..you get it, and it is a pretty story no doubt. But this shea butter is just not that bomb. Yes it smells really delicious, and leaves my skin super soft. But the consistency is of a frozen butter meaning you have to really dig in order to get something out of the jar, afterwards its a struggle getting it distributed on my skin evenly since it is so dense, and it takes ages to absorb and is very sticky. So it feels like a bit of an overpriced body butter which ruins all furniture with its stains since I never have the patience to wait around for it to get absorbed and leave sticky prints all over.

L:A Bruket Vildros Body Butter Review

Pros:

Makes my skin silky smooth.

Cons:

Takes a while to get absorbed.

More:

Today‘s theme is roses, and I‘m having a day off so I‘m treating you dear readers to two posts. This body butter which smells of wild roses, is very silky and leaves my skin soft. I like the idea of  body butters which smell fresh but not too sweet, which this one does. It sinks in pretty slowly which is a minus. The smell of roses is very discreet and pleasant, and the butter has the texture of sorbet, and melts into my skin.

Review of Orofluido Perfumed Body Cream

Pros:

Great smell and very hydrating.

Cons:

The smell can be a bit too heavy.

More:

Being a huge fan of the Orofluido hair oil I was excited to find out that the line also had a body lotion. Since the smell of the oil is divine (It changed my hair game big time which also is a plus) getting the body lotion was a no-brainer. Verdict: it smells great, just like the oil and actually hydrates my skin properly. This summer I have used it instead of a perfume, actually getting compliments and questions of what Im wearing. It also hydrates my skin well, though it was not helpful when it needed extra care after extensive sun exposure (so what, I do fall asleep in the sun and yes I am sorry!).

The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Body Butter Review

Pros:

It’s a fair trade product.

Cons:

Smells too sweet and does nada for my dry post-vacation legs crying for help.

More:

I have written a review of a body butter from Body Shop before, but I thought this one deserved a review of its own.  This range of argan oil products is relativly new (compared to all the other flavours we all grew up with literally stealing it from our mum – or is it just me?) and is made from community fair trade argan oil from Morocco.

According to the Body Shop website, this body butter will make you skin soft and smooth with 24 hours of hydration and have a buttery texture. The texture it sure has, and yes it makes your skin soft…but I tried using it post-vacation, when my tan was falling off and my legs crying for help – and it did NOTHING! Literally my legs were just as dry after application as before, the 24 hour hydration promise feels like a joke when your legs won’t stop peeling and you know how much this product costs. So no, I do not recommend this body butter, seriously what is the point of calling it a hydrating product when it won’t save your sun tan?

Crabtree & Evelyn Avocado, Olive and Basil Body Butter

Pros:

Makes your skin soft.

Cons:

The price, value for money and the smell.

More:

I’ll be honest: I bought this one because of the nice package (and since its so expensive I automatically expected it to be a great cream making my skin soft as a baby and to smell fantastic). I was a bit disappointed: yes it makes you skin softer, but it’s a very thick cream therefore you need to use a lot to cover your body, meaning you consume it fast. Since it’s an expensive product I want more for my money. About the smell: avocado, basil  and olive – it smells very “green”, meaning like you just went to a farmers market and bought a lot of basil. This smell is great in the kitchen, but doesn’t really smell nice on me (maybe if you want to attract a gardener…). Note to self: never judge anything by its package ever, no matter how pretty it is.

Review of The Body Shop Shea Body Butter

Pros:

It really does make your skin soft and yummy.

Cons:

The butter only works on medium dry skin. If you are just back from a vacation and want to keep that fading tan you will need something containing more moisture.

More:

The body butter is probably the big breadwinner for Body Shop, and I understand why: it makes your skin soft, smells delicious and is affordable. You only need to apply a small amount for good effect and therefore a butter can last for months.

This particular flavour of the butters, is a good change from all the fruity overdosed butters out there. It made me feel very feminine but at the same time not too girlie. I’ve tried many body lotions and butters and this one has over the years become my absolute favourite. It also becomes a real bargain once bought on sale (january and july)!
