Dior Capture Totale DreamSkin Advanced Skin Corrector Review

Gives my skin an amazing glow.

The price is pretty crazy for a cream – some people pay this much – I usually don‘t.

This very expensive story started with a sample – I wanted to try something else but my favourite Beauty Flash Balm – which has been my go-to for the past 5 years. I took the sample with me when visiting my grandparents – and my grandmother – who is very sensible with money  gasped “buy it!” when she saw my skin. I told her about the price and she was still “buy it!”. So I did, and now my skin looks retouched whenever I feel like it.

The cream is very light on my skin – usually I can‘t pile on too many products without getting a rash – but I‘ve been using it on top of my day cream and serum without a problem. My skin gets a glow and looks a bit retouched and luminous. I have noticed and so have those around me. Is it better then the beauty flash balm? I actually think so – because after many years of using the flash balm I stopped seeing any effect – with this cream I see a lot of it – and instantly. I simply use it as a shield against the world on bad days.

About the price: I got the refill package – which is cheaper – and yes, you can see that it‘s a refill – but I‘m pretty indifferent to that.

Gives my hydration.

…but not enough for my skin.

This mask gives hydrating overnight masks a bad reputation – it makes me want to quit regular masks all together and go over so sheets – and never go back. Its and overnight mask (as you might have figured), and is supposed to give you instant overnight hydration. I have used it during the past months – so my skin had actually gotten over the extreme winter dryness and was getting back on track – so I didn‘t need “that much” hydration -and still I was let down.

The mask is very light in texture, gets absorbed pretty easily and gives ok moisture, but the next day after use the previous evening my skin looks just “ok” – not extra overly hydrated, plumb or bright in any way. I could basically have used a fat cream getting the same effect – no difference.

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser Review

No problems with break-outs despite its heavy texture.

Smells of detergent.

My mum gave me this cleanser for christmas – in a smaller package (30 ml). That lasted me about 2,5 months – which I think is good. The cleanser feels more like a cream, and you need a lot per use and a lot of water to make it foam. It smells a bit like detergent (sorry stole this anomaly from a review on makeup alley) – which is unpleasant but leaves my skin feeling clean, though not very soft. I haven‘t had any problems with break-outs while using this cleanser, which the detergent smell made me fear – happy about that.

Clarins either make fantastic stuff (face oil and the beauty flash balm) or things which are pretty horrid to ones skin (their face mask). This face cleanser lands somewhere in the middle – its not that great – it can even feel luxurious if you are into the “heavy” make-up and beauty stuff – but if you like lightness and herbal smells this is not for you.

Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream Review

Does nothing for my dry hands.

Gets absorbed pretty fast.

In my experience stuff from Clarins can either be a total hit or a total miss . For example I can‘t see my beauty routine without their flash balm – which is genius or their body lotion – which has saved my dry skin over and over again. But this hand cream turned out to be a complete disappointment. It smells nice, it sinks in pretty fast – but seriously within 10 minutes of application my hands feel extremely dry again – which is super annoying. Basically one can re-apply this cream all day long without any real results. I won‘t repurchase this one again.

Best Body Lotions for Dry Skin

This time of the year my legs are dying due to dryness and lack of vitamin D – and all I want is to like Gisele in the picture above. Blogging about beauty for two years has led me through trying tons of lotions and potions, and I have compiled a small list of the best lotions to make you forget of dry skin and getting one step closer to those Gisele – legs (minus the rest of her craziness of course).

1.This Clarins body lotion is my absolute favourite (read review here). I buy it every year (no matter how many lotions I already have at home) – and it never lets me down – it sinks in fast, smells pleasant and most importantly – it makes my skin super soft, even when its beyond dry.

2. Nivea is a favourite of mine: a reliable budget friend I use when my skin needs some extra extra extra hydration – where I don‘t feel uncomfortable wrapping my skin in double layers before I go to bed. Read my full review of the Nivea body cream here.

3. In general I think that Dove makes pretty decent things – they smell nice, have a good quality and the price point is satisfying – I got my hands of this Dove body lotion by chance and was pleasantly surprised – it sinks in fast and makes my skin soooft. And the smell is not classic Dove so nobody will know that you are being on a budget.

4. Ok this list wouldn‘t be complete without some luxurious lotion – one of those that you kind of don‘t want to use because then you know it will make you run out of it – and you dread that – since you won‘t spent that money on it again. That lotion for me is this lily body lotion – smells of heaven and makes my bathroom feel like that of an old rich lady – but in a good way of course.

Hope you enjoy this list and feel free to share your favourites! /Mary

Happy new year lovelies, we have made a small list of what we loved and worshipped this year:

The facial oil of this year that brought our face out of the winter darkness..

This is where we got out grapefruit fix from in 2016…

The splurge of the year – which was well worth it..

This body oil made our bathroom feel like a warm coconut beach vacation all year long

The lavender oil that puts us to bed like babies was a favourite during this sleep deprived year.

This serum made our year a biiiiit prettier

The budget product of the year was … look here.

The hair brush which became our favourite hair thing in 2016..

…but this one also did wonders to our hair.

And WHAT WE DID NOT LIKE (wasted our money on):

The powder from hell…

The face mask which did nothing of what it promised (see the full list of face masks we won‘t repurchase here).

The ecological lemongrass disappointment of 2016 goes to this shea body butter

This rose lip balm made us (and our wallet) very very sad.

The scrubb which robbed us and made no difference to out skin!

The Kiehl‘s disappointment of the year was this one.

The foundation that made us look beyond unnatural and was just not worth a penny of our hard earned salary.

Thank you for a great 2016 and we are looking forward to guide you through the beauty jungle for another marvellous year!

The worst face masks – the complete list

The follow up on our post from last week listing the best face masks out there (trust me we are a tough jury..) we are back with a list of the masks which have disappointed us the most and which you should simply avoid:

  1. The Estee Lauder Hydra moisturizing mask has a delicious gel consistency which makes you dream of loads of hydration, but unfortunately I could‘t see any difference what so ever before and after use. Read the full horror story/review here.
  2. I‘m a fan of Origins and their overnight hydrating mask topped the list of our best face masks, but their Calm Your Senses mask really made you wish for much more after use, no calming effect just a fat cream that smells like the rest of the Origins stuff. Read full review here.
  3. The Clarins Hydraquench face mask was just one big disappointment, it made me break-out and all the freshness, radiance and rehydration that was promised – I saw nothing of that. Read full review here.
  4. I hate masks that promise to reduce your pores / make them go away, and do nothing the charcoal Origins mask is just another one of those masks, a big failure for me and my wallet. Read full review here.
  5. I‘m sorry Origins but you are winning this list – The Origins refreshing Ginzing mask which is supposed to make your face look much more fresh did not such thing. Read review here. No more Origins for me.

Which face masks do you use?

The Best Facial Masks out there – The complete list

Those of you who have followed this blog for a while know that I do have a craze for facial masks – they are a cheap(er) alternative to getting an actual salon facial and a quick way to make your skin look and feel fab. I have a whole shelf for my masks at home, and I‘m a bit embarrassed to admit that I add at least one to my collection every month (an expensive but satisfying habit). After trying my way through loads and loads of masks here is the top five of my favourites..since we are a critical blog a post of the worst masks out is to follow (next week..so stay tuned).

  1. Of all the hydrating masks out there I find the Origins drink up intense mask the best on the market. Not only does it make your skin super hydrated, but the package lasts for several years and its easy to apply. I have tried so many overnight masks but this one is “the one” for me. Read the full review here.
  2. Kiehl‘s Algea mask is sticky but shows results already after 10 minutes, serving as a hydration bomb. Generally I think Kiehl‘s shows an uneven consistency of the quality of their things, but this mask is a winner and a great investment, containing algeas, green tea and calendula, it calms down my skin and makes it very very happy. Read full review here.
  3. It‘s always nice to know that the people behind what you put on your face have some serious brain power, therefor we are fans of the Danish brand Beauté Pacifique , which was started by scientists from Novo Nordisk (they make insulin which doesn‘t equal faca care in my world but still gives the brand some serious credibility). The instant hydrating mask is like a fat cream that you put on overnight and voila – your skin gets a bomb of hydration with some visible changes the next day. Read the full review here.
  4. The Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is my best friend – I have used it for the past 5 years, and though I never actually used it as a mask, but just as a face cream – I wanted to put it on the list to share with you guys. This is a “Cinderella” cream – meaning it makes your skin glowing and is a saviour when you feel like your face looks like your beeep (you know what I wanted to say). It is e x p e n s i v e but so worth it. Read the full review here.
  5. A good budget alternative is The Body Shop Acai Face mask, which was just recently reviewed by moi. It makes blood flow to your face and give a great glow. It‘s not  the most WOW mask I have ever tried, but it smells great, feels luxurious and the result is decent – especially for the price. Read full review here.

Hope you enjoyed the list and let me know which masks you are using!

Review of Wonder Perfect Mascara

Gives you are very natural look.

It also gives you the panda look.

Just like every mascara, this one promises your eyes the world and a bit more. I’m so happy I don’t work with advertising, I think it must be a nightmare coming up with new catchy phrases for make-up ads, because honestly – haven’t we seen it all? Isn’t it impossible to surprise us by now? They are all the same: always a new formula, and it will always change you forever, and maybe even give you a model boyfriend in Paris…

This mascara doesn’t disappoint in the promising section: the Clarins website description of this mascara promises visibly fuller, longer, curled and intensely coloured lashes after just one application.

Well: yes my lashes become longer, more intensely black, they curl nicely BUT no volume is added whatsoever. My poor lashes look like long spiders feet, but they look soo thin, and since their colour is intensified they look like very black spider feet. Of course this is no disaster, many mascaras don’t keep their promises, but this one does a deadly mascara sin: it smudges. Basically it dries very fast, no problem there, but as soon as you touch your eyes or god forbid, get some wind in your face, you look like a panda. I hate that, it’s unacceptable, and therefore this mascara only gets 2 stars. Also it takes ages to get off. But it doesn’t clump.
