Clinique Superbalanced Makeup Review

images (1)

Pros:

Can apply it without a mirror and people won’t be able to tell you have make-up on.

Cons:

The bottle is not very functional

More:

This is a very light foundation – I use it when I don’t want to have a heavy make-up look but still want to hide the dark circles under my eyes or hyper pigmentation. The big con is that it’s hard to apply – it’s just a bottle: you can’t squeeze it and there is no application tool. So when the bottle is half empty you kind of have to shake it out like an old Heinz ketchup. This procedure is so annoying – especially in the morning when you just want to get on with it.The foundation blends in super well and one can’t really tell that you are wearing foundation – so super natural look – big plus.

Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base Review

clq_6lj401_402x464

Pros:

Covers up my red rosacea skin well.

Cons:

The price.

More:

I suffer from mild rosacea and use this base on my noose and checks to cover up redness. I apply this green coloured base, and then cover up with foundation on top. The package lasts for ages and you don‘t need much per use. The coverage is good and I feel that a good part of my redness is covered up well using this base. So I would definitely recommend this base if you have mild rosacea – but if you skin condition is more “serious” this coverage won‘t help you. I have used it on top of spots and smaller pimples and the coverage was good then too.

Review of Make-Up Stores Cover-all Concealer

coverall-mix_20120_500x500

Pros:

Covers very well and lasts for years.

Cons:

For the first time in this blogs history, we do not have a con.

More:

For the past seven years I have used this little jar of magic concealer almost daily to cover a superficial vein on my nose and sometimes an occasional pimpel, which shows up to remind of my youth. Also I use it to cover up red skin. Why do I call it magical you wonder? Because it has not yet run out, and I tell you the jar is small, but then again you do not need much because it covers very well. It looks very natural despite having a consistency of a thick cream and it blends into the skin very well. This concealer is very cheap, and almost free if you think about how many zillion times I have used it.

MAC STUDIO FINISH SPF 35 CONCEALER Review

oil3

Pros:

The package lasts for years.

Cons:

You can‘t apply it unless you have a good eye cream as a base.

More:

First and foremost I have been using this concealer for a good 1 year, and I still have more then half the package left. I definitely like this concealer more then my previous one (Mac Select Moisturecover concealer), but it still has a lot of minuses. You have to use your fingers when applying it, which is a bit unhygienic. You can also spend your money on an extra brush – which I didn‘t do.

When applying this concealer you have to have a layer of a good eye cream underneath, otherwise you really can‘t apply it at all – it gets all caked up. I have tried layering it over several different eye creams and only one really worked (my favourite Vichy eye cream). Does it cover well? It covers ok – I don‘t notice my dark circles throughout the day, but it could definitely cover more – since I can see a hint of them after applying the concealer. Also if your skin is sensitive it might not appreciate you piling on concealer on top of a fat layer of eye cream – though this way you will actually remember to apply eye cream (which for me is a bit of a regime “for old people” hence it took me a while getting used to it).

I choose the shade of my concealer with a Mac sales person and honestly sometimes it feels like the part I‘m covering up is shining right back at me – like the color is too bright, and I have to spend a few extra second smudging it in, so it fits in with the color of the rest of my face.

Overall I must say that this concealer could give better coverage, but I still have loads left so I will keep on using it…til I bump into a perfect concealer (in my friends make-up bag) and fire this one.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Powder Foundation Review

clq_zgh6_402x464

Pros:

Nice package.

Cons:

Looks pretty unnatural.

More:

It got tricked. I walked into the store looking for a transparent oil absorbing powder – but came out with a powder foundation plus concealer powder. What was I thinking ? I was not thinking obviously and I was tricked.  I think sometimes the salespeople speak to our inner selves – the salesperson that day was just trying to cover up my acne for me.

Verdict: this powder covers up well, you get 14,5 grams of powder per package (usually you get 9). The package is pretty, functional, and has a big mirror. The powder is supposed to hydrate dry parts of the skin, but instead of giving a nice matte touch, my skin turns shiny and oily within a few hours after the use of this powder. The powder piles up on my skin and looks very unnatural.

H&M Bronzing Powder Review

Pros:

Provides a natural tan and covers imperfections. Cheap.

Cons:

There’s a little bit of glitter in the powder, which can be seen in bright sun light (and it looks weird). Probably filled with hormone-disturbing ingredients.

More:

To avoid any misunderstandings, my bronzing powder looks like the picture below, but I couldn’t find it anywhere on H&Ms website. I’m pretty sure the bronzing powder above and the one below are very similar, if not the same.

I’ve used this bronzing powders for years. It started because I needed a powder for the summer nights, and then it turned into a long-term relationship. Actually, I often just use this powder and nothing else (okay, perhaps a little mascara). It covers my imperfections OK without looking too “make-upped” AND it gives me a tan. Win win. Further it’s darn cheap and it lasts for ages.

There’s two things to be aware of:

1) Some of my friends who have a lighter skin tone than me. They tried my bronzing powder, and it doesn’t work for them. So test it out in-store and find a tone that fits your skin.

2) Being so cheap and from H&M this powder probably contains heaps of hormone-disturbing, non-organic ingredients. From looking at the back I can see that it contains two types of parabens. For this reason I’m actually considering changing my daily skin routine into a more organic and non-hormone disturbing alternative – just haven’t found it yet.

Murad: Refreshing Cleanser

Pros:

I love that this Murad cleanser doesn’t dry out my skin or sting in my eyes when I remove mascara using it. Also, you only have to use a little amount of cleanser each time, meaning that the relatively large tube lasts long.

Cons:

Murad is pretty expensive (especially in Denmark – In the US it’s “only” $32! – which is around half-price).

More:

The Murad cleanser is within the sub-brand “Age Reform”. It is supposed to have a “non-drying formula” that “soothes skin by washing away excess surface oil, makeup, and impurities with softening extracts of Cucumber, Hawaiian White Ginger, and Algae.”

I don’t know how much my skin’s age is “reformed”, but I really like that this cleanser is not over-drying my skin like some other cleansers and makeup removers do. Also, as mentioned above, it doesn’t sting in my eyes when rubbing it in them to remove mascara. I tried others that made my eyes water, red and/or that stung a lot – perhaps they weren’t meant to be used for eyes or my eyes were too sensible. Either way, I don’t want to go through self-torture every time I have to remove mascara. Further, I am not one for having a facial cleanser and an eye makeup remover. I want to be able to use one thing for removing makeup, so this is a good fit for me.

To touch upon the “duration” of this product, it really lasts! As in, “when will this tube be empty!?”. I have used the Murad cleanser almost every single night for at least a month, and I barely see that it is used. I absolutely love products that lasts. I’ve experienced too many (expensive) products that are empty within no time (*cough* YoungBlood *cough*). So even though it’s an expensive cleanser, it’s not that bad in the long run.

Review of L’ORÉAL New Nude Magique BB Cream

L__039_Or_eacute_al_Paris_Nude_Magique_BB_Cream_Bare_Skin_Beautifier_SPF_12___Light_Skin_Tone_30ml_1363877608

Pros:

I think the BB Cream looks natural on my skin and it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a “foundation mask” like other foundations do.

Cons:

The BB Cream doesn’t really cover my imperfections. The dark circles under my eyes are still visible, though a bit “evened out” and you can still spot the red pimple on my forehead. Further, I feel that I need to use a lot of cream in order to make it look even.

More:

A light foundation that promise to be “5 in 1” when it comes to:

  • “flawless coverage”
  • “perfectly even skin texture”
  • “fresh dewy glow”
  • 24h hydration
  • protects with spf 12

Also, it claims to “mimic the texture and glow of perfect bare skin”.

The foundation is light-weight, it gives you an even skin tone and minimises small pimples, dark spots or imperfections. It does not, however, cover these it only evens them a bit out or minimises them. Therefore: If you have red pimples, dark spots under your eyes or anything else you would like to cover up, you should use a concealer with this or another product.

It’s kind of like putting an  “Instagram filter” on your face – but without doing any Photoshop retouching: It makes you look better, but nothing is “retouched” away.

When it comes to the promises of making your skin “flawless”, “perfectly even” and “glowing freshly” they promise way too much. This is a light foundation – not magic fairy dust.
