Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray Review

uk200007902_oribe

Pros:

Smells good of a hair salon.

Cons:

Doesn‘t give the same great volume effect as a dry shampoo.

More:

So my hairdresser said I just have to have this spray – the hair sprays from Oribe is beyond hyped (it doesn‘t deserve that hype and we will post a review of it soon!) so I went with the flow. My hair is pretty thin and this thickening spray does its just ok – not fantastic results, but its a good alternative to using a dry shampoo. Why do I prefer it to a dry shampoo? First and foremost, I‘m pregnant – so can‘t use anything in a spray can (no idea why but will follow that advice), secondly using dry shampoo can be very tedious and this spray is just easy to apply (and doesn‘t need to be “combed out”). But saying that using it gives my hair great volume would be a lie.

Revlon Uniq One Dry Shampoo Review

revlon-uniq-one-dry-shampoo-300ml

Pros:

Doesn‘t leave any white residue.

Cons:

Makes my hair crazy electric.

More:

This dry shampoo doesn‘t grease my hair, as they sometimes can do. It holds its promises that it puts on the front (to refresh and revive/absorb exces oils/adds volume/natural finish…), and most importantly it does not leave white residue. On the downside is that it leaves your hair static electric, and if you have a bit thin hair – like I do, that is not great. I basically use it, brush my hair and leave it in a bun. Wearing it loose is not a possibility, with the crazy electric hair. So basically if you have grease-prone hair, and don‘t want your scalp to show when you wear a bun, this is good before you put it in a bun. The biggest plus for me though (with my thin hair) – is that it gives my hair great volume.

d:fi #styletoparty Dry Shampoo Review

d-fi-dry-shampoo-300ml-p9035-11251_image

Pros:

Smells great of pineapple!

Cons:

Doesn‘t do it if you want to use this dry shampoo to “clean” your hair (instead of a small instant fix pre going out into the world…)

More:

As the cover suggests (#styletoparty) this dry shampoo is great before a party, to spritz up your hairdo and make it worth-stand the sweaty dance floor. Plus its pineapple scent preps you for all the pina coladas coming for the night! Just a little wiff in clean hair will give extra volume and for off grease for all the night. But if you get greasy hair 24 hours after washing, it won‘t do. It doesn‘t really clean in depth, so to use for cleaning you would have to use a big amount, and that ends up greasing too much, and leaving residue…

Our best hair products – the complete list

3738large

It‘s no secret hair products take up a lot of space on this blog. Therefore we decided to compose a list of our all time favourite hair products:

  1. Best hair maskKiehl’s Olive Fruit Reparative hair pak – I have been using this mask for the past two years and ALWAYS return to it – actually its the only thing from Kiehl‘s I‘ve stayed faithful to. The mask makes my hair instantly (after 10 minutes) soft, easy to de-tangle and just makes it look much better. This blog is more about what you shouldn‘t buy rather then what you should buy and this mask is probably the only time I‘ve urged my readers to try something so urgently. By try I mean getting a sample of it. Read full review here.
  2. Best hair oilOrofluido hair oil – this oil is the oil of all oils, and those of you who have read a few reviews of hair products on this blog know that I always refer back to it. This oil makes my hair instantly soft and smells of heaven. And its a great budget buy – a bottle has lasted me for 2 years. Trust me I have tried a lot of oils and nothing comes close to it (yes we are talking about you Moroccan oil). See full review here.
  3. Best dry shampood:fi dry shampoo – most beauty/fashion/french bloggers refer to Klorane dry shampoo as the best thing out there. We have reviewed it (read review here) and we really really really liked it. But seriously there must be other dry shampoos out there which are just as good and keep a good level of quality..answer: hell yeah. Sure d:fi dry shampoo doesn‘t ooze of french sophistication but its good quality, the color is neutral (not traces of white in my hair yey) and its cheap. Much better than Klorane if you look at it from a price point – which I know many of you are. Read the full review here.
  4. Best shampoo and conditionerBamboo smooth anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner – this shampoo and conditioner are my favourites because they give my hair that va va voom feeling and a bottle lasts for about 6 months (which might justify the steep price). Considering frizz one of my hairs biggest enemies these bottles have been saviours. Read full review here.
  5. Best quick fixBamboo Kendi oil dry oil mist – this oil is my go when I need a quick solution – some shine and nice texture. It doesn‘t replace a hair cut and won‘t fight dry ends but It‘s a big favourite – partly again cause a bottle lasts for years and the shine adds some well-needed confidence from sad hair days. This is our list, please feel free to share your favourite hair products with us and we will do out best to feature them in the blog. Or do you disagree with some of our choices – let us know – we love all feed-back!

Batiste XXL Volume Spray Review

Pros:

Gives great volume.

Cons:

I look like snow white after use, literally.

More:

This dry shampoo is supposed to make your hair less oily and give it the XXL volume. I have oily skin which also extends to my scalp, which basically makes my hair oily a day after wash – but I‘m sensible and know that would dry my hair out. Therefore I started using dry shampoo as a substitute for an actual wash. I got a bit obsessed since it‘s soo easy and quick. This dry shampoo though has been a real disappointment, it basically left my scalp white and it really takes a long time to get it out of my hair. Plus too much shampoo comes out after one spray. Even though a bottle lasts for about 14-15 “washes” I feel it‘s not worth the price. It gives great volume but when your hair is white you really couldn‘t care less about the volume…

Review of Caviar (Alterna) Dry Shampoo

Pros:

Free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates & synthetic colour. Travel size.

Cons:

Makes my hair grey/white. Hard to “distribute” evenly in hair.

More:

This dry shampoo from Caviar, Alterna comes in powder-form in a handy plastic bottle with 75g. I like that the bottle is small enough to have in carry-on luggage when travelling – most dry shampoos doesn’t comply with this, and it’s especially when I’m travelling that I need my dry shampoo nearby.

To apply the dry shampoo powder, you take off the top and press or shake the bottle so that the powder comes out. This is a bit hard to do because the powder tends to come in “lumps” and, hence, is not distributed evenly. Furthermore, my hair is brown and the powder is white. This means that if I apply a bit too much or do not even it out, the dry shampoo will colour my hair grey/white, which doesn’t look good!!! This has happened to me more than a couple of times and it’s really annoying because I can’t just brush it out, it really sits there, making me look like I’ve got grey hair…

A little trick: I’ve started applying the dry shampoo in the evening before I go to sleep. Then it gets “rubbed in” my scalp over night and the risks of getting grey hair is smaller.

It promises to refresh and re-energise my hair without water – I would say that it could do a better job doing just that.

Overall, I like that it comes in a small bottle and that it’s free from all kinds of bad ingredients, however, I don’t like that it’s so hard to distribute evenly to hair, and that it colours my hair grey. I would probably not get it again.

KLORANE Dry shampoo with oat milk Review

Pros:

Freshens up my hair and blends in with my dark hair colour.

Cons:

My hair doesn’t get the “just washed” feeling. It is a dry shampoo, after all, not a time-taking shower.

More:

This is actually the best dry shampoo I’ve tried… Ever.

My hair gets greasy the day after I’ve washed it, which is SO annoying. This means that I have a day where my hair looks beautiful (the day when it’s washed in the morning), and then I have a pony-tail- or hair-bun-day where I hate my hair. Therefore, I’m a loyal user of dry shampoos.

The first problem I have with dry shampoos is that I have brown hair, and it can be really hard for me to find a dry shampoo that fits my hair colour… When using too much of particular dry shampoos it looks like I “did a headstand in a sandbox”, as one of my friends nicely put it one morning in class. Another time, I just tried out this new dry shampoo, I rushed out of the door to meet my boyfriend in the city centre and was greeted: “Okay, your hair looks weird. It’s all grey at the roots. Since when did you get grey hair?” Hence, I’m freaking excited about KLORANE’s dry shampoo, because you can get one especially for dark/brown hair. Score!

Also, the dry shampoo is easy peasy to apply and even out (spray evenly on roots, wait, brush out). It makes the greasy look (which can be nasty) go away so I can go outside without feeling like a bum.
