Our best hair products – the complete list

It‘s no secret hair products take up a lot of space on this blog. Therefore we decided to compose a list of our all time favourite hair products:

  1. Best hair maskKiehl’s Olive Fruit Reparative hair pak – I have been using this mask for the past two years and ALWAYS return to it – actually its the only thing from Kiehl‘s I‘ve stayed faithful to. The mask makes my hair instantly (after 10 minutes) soft, easy to de-tangle and just makes it look much better. This blog is more about what you shouldn‘t buy rather then what you should buy and this mask is probably the only time I‘ve urged my readers to try something so urgently. By try I mean getting a sample of it. Read full review here.
  2. Best hair oilOrofluido hair oil – this oil is the oil of all oils, and those of you who have read a few reviews of hair products on this blog know that I always refer back to it. This oil makes my hair instantly soft and smells of heaven. And its a great budget buy – a bottle has lasted me for 2 years. Trust me I have tried a lot of oils and nothing comes close to it (yes we are talking about you Moroccan oil). See full review here.
  3. Best dry shampood:fi dry shampoo – most beauty/fashion/french bloggers refer to Klorane dry shampoo as the best thing out there. We have reviewed it (read review here) and we really really really liked it. But seriously there must be other dry shampoos out there which are just as good and keep a good level of quality..answer: hell yeah. Sure d:fi dry shampoo doesn‘t ooze of french sophistication but its good quality, the color is neutral (not traces of white in my hair yey) and its cheap. Much better than Klorane if you look at it from a price point – which I know many of you are. Read the full review here.
  4. Best shampoo and conditionerBamboo smooth anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner – this shampoo and conditioner are my favourites because they give my hair that va va voom feeling and a bottle lasts for about 6 months (which might justify the steep price). Considering frizz one of my hairs biggest enemies these bottles have been saviours. Read full review here.
  5. Best quick fixBamboo Kendi oil dry oil mist – this oil is my go when I need a quick solution – some shine and nice texture. It doesn‘t replace a hair cut and won‘t fight dry ends but It‘s a big favourite – partly again cause a bottle lasts for years and the shine adds some well-needed confidence from sad hair days. This is our list, please feel free to share your favourite hair products with us and we will do out best to feature them in the blog. Or do you disagree with some of our choices – let us know – we love all feed-back!

Revlon 45 Days Total Color Care 2in1 Stunning Highlights Review

revlon-45-days-total-color-care-conditioning-shamp

Pros:

I can postpone a visit to the hairdresser with 10 days using this one.

Cons:

Smells a bit synthetic.

More:

I can finally write this review – since today I have actually used this shampoo for 50 days. I have short colored hair and have been experiencing the same problem over and over again – after a hair cut I‘m happy and satisfied with my hair – until after about 4 weeks the color starts to fade and my hair starts looking pretty “dull”. Since I simply can‘t afford to color my hair once a month (don‘t think its healthy either) – I usually walk around with “tired/dull” hair for another couple of weeks. So I was pretty excited but also sceptical to trying this new shampoo.

The shampoo is sulfate free which I really like. Sulfate is usually hard to completely remove from the hair, which makes my hair dry and irritates my scalp – which of course I hate. So I could definitely feel that this shampoo was sulfur free since there was no thick mass of shampoo that one had to wash out. The easiest and cheapest way for brands to create lathering shampoo is by adding sulphates. This shampoo doesn‘t lather – like shampoos usually do – and that can feel a bit unusual but one gets used to it after a couple of weeks. One also gets used to the blue/silver color, and that the shampoo smells a bit of chemicals. So I felt a bit frightened applying it in my hair – but decided to give it a 50 days chance.

I‘m satisfied with this shampoo, since my hair still looks “respectable” ( equals less dull) and the color looks totally ok – which means that I can wait another extra 10 days before heading to the hairdresser – which is great.

The shampoo doesn‘t give me a feeling of luxury due to its smell and color. Since it doesn‘t lather I use more per wash then I would have with a lathering shampoo (I think it‘s just the innate feeling of my hair won‘t get clean if it does‘t lather).

The shampoo is supposed to give UV protection – I haven‘t been able to explore that since its been freezing and grey outside. It also protects agains heat which is a plus.

Alterna Caviar INTENSE OIL CRÈME SHAMPOO and Deep Conditioner Review

1

Pros:

I can go a week without washing my hair when using this duo.

Cons:

I still need to use my oils to make my hair soft.

More:

I have mixed feeling about this duo – being a huge fan of expensive but “oh soo effective” Alterna I had huge expectations. First and foremost this shampoo and conditioner smell great, they are a bit hard to wash out and lather well. What about the result? Well when using these two I can go for 1 week without washing my hair and it still looks great on the last days. It‘s not very easy to detangle and I don‘t feel that extra moisture which is promised – leaving me a bit disappointed.

Alterna Bamboo Anti-Frizz PM Overnight Smoothing Treatment Review

Pros:

Makes my hair much softer.

Cons:

Takes a while (10 minutes for me) to wash out of my hair.

More:

Those who follow this blog know that this autumn has really been a struggle for my hair: it‘s soo dry I‘ve wanted to chop it off quit a few times, and despite using tons of products and getting a new hair cut I still don‘t feel that wow sensation (probably cause I‘ve been using shampoo that just didn‘t do it for me for the past 2 months, review coming up shortly) but also because at this time of the year everything becomes dry and tired: my hair, skin, cuticles, eyes …But this hair mask has really helped me out: it‘s an overnight treatment, so you have to have plan when using it on beforehand (so you don‘t run to work wearing it in the morning), since it takes a while to wash out. It gets absorbed very fast so you don‘t feel like you are walking around with products in your hair in the evening and the result was very pleasing: my hair feels much softer and looks more glossy and alive, so I‘m happy and with a little help from some old friends  I feel my hair is getting back into the game (and thank god for that cause walking around with hair that looks like a dry wig really is a self-esteem killer).

Revlon Professional Uniq One Lotus Flower Treatment review

Pros:

Gives my hair great volume, makes it more smooth and silky.

Cons:

Hasn‘t really prevented any split ends on my part.

More:

My hair is suffering from a serious winter depression – and the winter hasn‘t started yet. It‘s only been 2,5 months since (the summer) my last hair cut, and it already looks bruised and battered, basically like i‘ve been washing it in petroleum for the past months – lifeless, tired, dry, frizzy and no volume. I have to admit that I too have been lazy and not doing my best, barely used oils, hair masks and treatments because I simply don‘t have time, patience or the belief that using a helmet daily (I bike to work) my hair can look anything but OK. So waiting for my appointment at a very fancy hair salon (Saturday please do come sooooon) I have been using this Lotus flower treatment – and I kind of like it. First and foremost it‘s so easy to just spray it on and run, no fuss with waiting for a certain amount of time etc. Secondary, I see an instant effect, which means everything right now (to my hair and self-esteem): my hair gains more volume, is easier to detangle, more shiny and definitely more silky. I also really like that the effect of the spray lasts several days and that it doesn‘t make my hair greasy or dirty. What I don‘t like: the spray promises split end prevention, and though it makes my split ends look more silky and shiny, it has definitely not prevented the birth of new split ends, they just keep on coming…

Batiste XXL Volume Spray Review

Pros:

Gives great volume.

Cons:

I look like snow white after use, literally.

More:

This dry shampoo is supposed to make your hair less oily and give it the XXL volume. I have oily skin which also extends to my scalp, which basically makes my hair oily a day after wash – but I‘m sensible and know that would dry my hair out. Therefore I started using dry shampoo as a substitute for an actual wash. I got a bit obsessed since it‘s soo easy and quick. This dry shampoo though has been a real disappointment, it basically left my scalp white and it really takes a long time to get it out of my hair. Plus too much shampoo comes out after one spray. Even though a bottle lasts for about 14-15 “washes” I feel it‘s not worth the price. It gives great volume but when your hair is white you really couldn‘t care less about the volume…

UNIQ ONE SUPERIOR HAIR MASK Review

revlon_uniq_one_superior_hair_mask_300ml_10-1oz__73541-1445889454-1280-1280

Pros:

Keeps pretty much each of its many promises.

Cons:

Doesn‘t eliminate my frizz.

More:

This mask promises A LOT: eliminating frizz, making your hair easier to detangle, making it shiny, silky and giving it hydration. Verdict: it is a very luxurious hair mask, from its rich texture (like a fat nice body lotion) to its smell of a saloon.  I have felt a differnce using it, since it makes my hair very soft, silk indeed and gives it great volume. Though I did not feel my frizz being eliminated, I still like this mask a lot. I also like that you need very little per use.

Joico Moisture Recovery Treatment Balm Review

Pros:

Smells great.

Cons:

My hair is pretty dry after using this mask, so no “wow” effect at all.

More:

My previous experiences with Joico have been pretty awesome, leaving my hair looking like a million (or like I just stepped out of a salon) – so this hair mask left me pretty disappointed. It smells great (like a hair salon but not in the synthetic chemical way but in the pleasant luxurious way), and you need a tiny bit per application – which makes the bottle last for ages (4 months roughly – though I only was my hair twice a week). But the results are pretty disappointing – my hair is pretty dry afterwards, so no fantastic moisturising effect at all. I fix that with oils and leave-in treatments, but still I expected more. Generally my hair looks pretty settled and fixed when I have used this mask which I like – these words might seem weird when talking about hair – but I just look like a crazy gorilla too often after a hair wash, which is why I like when my hair looks “structured” and sleek.
