CVS Pharmacy: Sport Sun Lotion

Pros:

Cheap and gives good protection against the sun.

Cons:

Re-application every second hour makes a 237 ml bottle last for about 7 days for 2 people.

More:

I have to start this post by apologising to all of our readers not living in the US or being on their way there for a sunny vacation. CVS is a chain of stores only found in the US and this sun lotion is from their own brand. I bought it because it was the cheapest sun lotion there was to find while on vacation in Miami. I simply refuse to pay 30 dollars for a bottle of sunscreen, which is a standard in my native Denmark and had no high hopes for this cheap alternative.

The package promises you water resistant protection for 80 minutes, and urges you to reapply the lotion every second hour. This lotion is very light, sinks in relatively fast and has a nice smell. It protects well against the sun (so well that I was lying in the beaming mid-day sun for 2 hours straight and got away with a very light tan using the SPF 30) and it is cheap. So I truly recommend it, and hope that all of our lovely readers will go to a nice and sunny place this summer!

Ecran Lemonoil: Sunscreen

Pros:

Easy to apply, spray, cheap

Cons:

Only use when your skin has gotten used to the sun

More:

This was a quick fix for me when I ran out of sunscreen in Spain… I bought a 10 and a 30. They were really cheap (around a total of 16 EUR).

The sunscreen is easy to apply with a spray function and see-through lotion that is very liquid.

As it is a sun oil it doesn’t seem to protect your skin optimally, so don’t use it on sensitive, white, winter skin (as I did, and got red). Use it when you have a good tan and want to improve that than while protecting your skin.

The sunscreen is water resistant, without parabens and it smells like most sunscreens (a little bit like grandma’s face cream – or maybe it’s just me). I used 1/3 of a bottle in four days (but I also pour sunscreen all over myself at any sign of redness).

A good and cheap sunscreen alternative. But remember: The shadow is always good in the strongest hours or if you’re burned (we don’t want any skin cancer!)

Riemann: P20 Sun Screen

Pros:

Easy to apply, no white marks, lasts 10 hours

Cons:

Seems a bit chemical and “harsh” (and smells that way too)

More:

I got to know this sunscreen because it was used on a small child in my family. Apparently this sunscreen is perfect for children as it lasts for ages (10 hours), really protects your skin, is very water resistant and is easy to apply evenly on skin. I benefit from the same characteristics as I looooove to swim in the pool and ocean and I hate white sunscreen marks and sunscreen that is hard to apply…

On a quick side note: My skin is very receptive of the sun, I have a very easy time getting nice and tanned – if I use (a lot of) sunscreen, that is, if I don’t, I’ll get red.

My initial thoughts were that I would not get tanned with this sunscreen, however, it turned out not to apply. I even managed to get red using this (SPF 20), so I might try the SPF 30 for my “just-came-out-from-100-layers-of-clothes-and-no-sun-in-9-moths” skin next time).

The Riemann P20 works great for me in the beginning of the season when my skin is very sensitive to sun. As I get more tanned, I will move on to less strong/harsh alternatives (but I will stay at SPF 15-30 for my body and SPF 30-50 + cap for my face). If I’m going to places where the sun is very harsh and/or I have to stay in the sun for a long time (e.g. when surfing) I will definitely use this sunscreen (together with a SPF 50 and some white zink on my face).

All in all this is a great protection against the sun for you or any kids you might have or be around. Also, it works wonders when you’re in the ocean for hours. However, remember to stay in the shadow in the most sunny hours and to wear cap and clothes to protect the most exposed skin areas. Health message over. Here goes the ratings:
