The Body Shop Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask

download (5)

Pros:

Good price.

Cons:

Doesn‘t have as much effect as I would wish for.

More:

I guess this is some kind of budget version of Kiehl‘s cilantro mask (read my review here) – promising to get rid of dirt from pollution and leave you with clearer skin. The cilantro mask has en extra plus: it‘s overnight and thus gives you skin loads of hydration. This matcha mask doesn‘t give your skin any hydration – it makes your skin tingle, and after your skin does indeed feel very clean. It doesn‘t really get rid of any impurities like blackheads. After use my skin feels very “clean and clear”. I think it‘s a good budget options, but I‘m not going to repurchase this mask again. It has a clay like consistency but does not leave my skin as clear as I would wish for.

Dior Dreamskin – 1-minute Mask Review

dior-capture-totale-dreamskin-1-minute-mask-75ml

Pros:

A quick fix – you only have to keep it on your skin for a few minutes (one minute not enough)!

Cons:

Your skin looks radiant but this is no miracle mask in any way.

More:

I‘m a huge fan of the DreamSkin corrector – which has helped me out with some great glow on many bad days – so wanted to see if this mask is just as efficient as the skin corrector. Turns out it‘s not. It‘s very easy to use – not sticky, easy to apply, nice light texture. I use mine several times a week because its very light. The result? Brighter skin and a nice glow, but nothing fantastic or long-lasting. I will not repurchase this mask again – but just got another bottle of their DreamSkin corrector and my skin is glowy all all day long.

The Body Shop Nicaraguan Coffee Intense Awakening Mask Review

nicaraguan-coffee-intense-awakening-mask-1-640x640

Pros:

Gives my skin a good energy boost in the morning.

Cons:

Don‘t see any impurities cleaned or my skin does‘t really look more refined after use.

More:

I had pretty hight expectations on this mask – the idea of having coffee on your skin sure should make you wake up quick – and I‘ve actually been using this mask on weekday mornings when I felt my skin really needed that extra push. My verdict: the mask is a bit sticky, but easy to remove. The smell is ok – but not super energising or boosting. My skin feels good after use but that is it. Body Shop promises A LOT with this mask – that it helps reduce the signs of fatigue so skin feels awakened, cleared of impurities and looks more radiant and pores look refined. This is all true but the effect is pretty bleak – but for this price I‘m still satisfied – even though I‘m most probably not going to re-purchase this mask again.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask Review

04192068_zi

Pros:

Instant hydration.

Cons:

Expensive (at least if bought in Europe compared to the US)

More:

I think Kiehl’s is a brand with very uneven quality – I love their hair mask and coriander face mask. But their hand cream feels like a pharmacy balm which won‘t get absorbed, and their vitamin C serum – which I spent a fortune on – did absolutely nothing for me. But sometimes they really get it right – just like they did with this face mask – which I discovered at random. It feels like a regular face cream when you apply it – so not too thick. It gets absorbed very quickly – and it you see an instant result. Next day my skin looks extremely smooth, plumb and hydrated. Some overnight masks can be very rich causing sensitive skin like mine to break out – but this mask can be used several nights a week without any break-outs or feeling that you “overfeed” your skin with too much goodness.

An obvious minus with Kiehl’s and many other American brands is – that they are more expensive in Europe. The price in the US is completely ok but in Europe buying Kiehl’s is a bit of an extravagance.

Ole Henriksen Moment Of Truth 2-In-1 Polishing Sugar Mask Review

download (2)

Pros:

Loads of delish ingredients.

Cons:

Not an efficient scrub.

More:

This year autumn did really give my skin a proper beating (that and my newfound love of going out twice a week for some proper dancing and alcohol). So each Friday I‘m all glowy skin from my sheet masks, 8 hours sleep and veggie diet. And then afterwork and GTs come my way and by Sunday I look 10 years older (but feel 10 years lighter cause I‘ve had so much fun). So I keep on restoring my skin to then break it down. And some would say this is stupid, and I should stay home more – but I can‘t I‘m having too much fun.

So buying this mask is just another measure to restore restore and restore my skin. First of all it‘s extremely sticky, you feel like you are wearing a layer of sugar literally (but two of its ingredients are raw sugar and honey so it makes sense). It takes ages to wash off cause it feels like you are wearing a coat of syrup. This mask contains loads of yummy ingredients (pure honey, rosehip oil, pomegranate seed powder and pumpkin extract) and promises to make your skin glowy and exfoliate it. I think it does give my skin a great glow, and after using it in the evening I can definitely still tell a difference next day.

About the exfoliation – well I believe in a proper scrub, like your skin should even itch a bit after – and I simply don‘t feel that with this mask. The grains are pretty large but the thick surgery texture of the mask makes it impossible to massage it in your face – cause you just get so sticky and uncomfortable.

Conclusion – it‘s an ok mask – but I won‘t repurchase it.

CLARINS SOS HYDRA MASK REVIEW

product_v1_x1

Pros:

Gives my hydration.

Cons:

…but not enough for my skin.

More:

This mask gives hydrating overnight masks a bad reputation – it makes me want to quit regular masks all together and go over so sheets – and never go back. Its and overnight mask (as you might have figured), and is supposed to give you instant overnight hydration. I have used it during the past months – so my skin had actually gotten over the extreme winter dryness and was getting back on track – so I didn‘t need “that much” hydration -and still I was let down.

The mask is very light in texture, gets absorbed pretty easily and gives ok moisture, but the next day after use the previous evening my skin looks just “ok” – not extra overly hydrated, plumb or bright in any way. I could basically have used a fat cream getting the same effect – no difference.

GlamGlow Flashmud Brightening Treatment Review

i-022313-flashmud-brightening-treatment-1-940

Pros:

A good quick fix for dull skin.

Cons:

Not any “WOW” factor at all.

More:

This is my first GlamGlow product – I have occasionally passed their stand at Sephora – but not given it much thought. But after my Himalayan charcoal mask ran out I decided to give mud another go – even though I‘m a big sceptic. This mask is packed with ingredients I can‘t even pronounce – all promising the same things – bright, light and luminous skin.

My verdict: the mask dries in fast, which is practical, you only need to leave it on for about 10 minutes and the effect is pretty instant. I do think my skin looks very bright after use – and use this mask as a quick fix before heading out. Is it some kind of miracle that totally changed the texture and look of my skin? Absolutely not. It‘s good but not amazing – so I won‘t repurchase it again.

DIOR HYDRA LIFE JELLY SLEEPING MASK REVIEW

download

Pros:

Makes my skin more hydrated after use.

Cons:

No glow or radiance as promised.

More:

Honestly I like my budget face masks (Origins Drink Up Intense is my go to budget product nr 1 – I know some may say it‘s not that of a budget price tag – but the price per use is very budget friendly…) but sometimes I like to really splurge. And this Dior mask is one of those big splurges. I have to admit, that I love anything with a “jelly” like consistency which is why I chose this one. Jelly just makes me think of “refresh” and hydration bomb term. I thought maybe this mask would replace my new and very expensive habit of sheet masks…but It didn‘t. The mask is applied overnight, it gets absorbed very fast, and actually feels just like a “regular” cream on my face.

I kind of assumed my skin would be as all things promised by this mask – glowing, refreshed, softened, radiant…the verdict is: no it wasn‘t. This mask is fine – my skin feels ok hydrated the next day. But that is really it. No big “wow” or glow or radiance or anything else. I really feel I was cheated and this mask is absolutely not worth its price.

I haven‘t really used that many products from Dior and after this mask I know that I won‘t.

Ole Henriksen Berry Nurturing Gel Mask Review

s1910751-main-hero

Pros:

Actually the price – for once – since you need so little per use, this jar can last you for a year or more.

Cons:

Doesn‘t provide “deep hydration” – but rather has a brightening effect, which not always is enough in a rough winter climate.

More:

I don‘t have much experience with Danish Ole Henriksen products, but I like his smiley face and eternal sunshine optimism. Plus my friends use Ole and his partner as an exemple when he forces me to make plans weeks in advance (apparently Ole and his partner use their calendar to map out their romantic gatherings which is foreign to a spontaneous time anarchist like myself). Anyways – this mask makes me feel like I‘m in a spa – it smells lovely of lavender and despite being a gel, is not sticky at all. The effect: my skin feels refreshed and brightened after use, and my skin very smooth. Minus: if you need deep hydration during the cold months this is not sufficient.
