GlamGlow Flashmud Brightening Treatment Review

i-022313-flashmud-brightening-treatment-1-940

Pros:

A good quick fix for dull skin.

Cons:

Not any “WOW” factor at all.

More:

This is my first GlamGlow product – I have occasionally passed their stand at Sephora – but not given it much thought. But after my Himalayan charcoal mask ran out I decided to give mud another go – even though I‘m a big sceptic. This mask is packed with ingredients I can‘t even pronounce – all promising the same things – bright, light and luminous skin.

My verdict: the mask dries in fast, which is practical, you only need to leave it on for about 10 minutes and the effect is pretty instant. I do think my skin looks very bright after use – and use this mask as a quick fix before heading out. Is it some kind of miracle that totally changed the texture and look of my skin? Absolutely not. It‘s good but not amazing – so I won‘t repurchase it again.

DIOR HYDRA LIFE JELLY SLEEPING MASK REVIEW

download

Pros:

Makes my skin more hydrated after use.

Cons:

No glow or radiance as promised.

More:

Honestly I like my budget face masks (Origins Drink Up Intense is my go to budget product nr 1 – I know some may say it‘s not that of a budget price tag – but the price per use is very budget friendly…) but sometimes I like to really splurge. And this Dior mask is one of those big splurges. I have to admit, that I love anything with a “jelly” like consistency which is why I chose this one. Jelly just makes me think of “refresh” and hydration bomb term. I thought maybe this mask would replace my new and very expensive habit of sheet masks…but It didn‘t. The mask is applied overnight, it gets absorbed very fast, and actually feels just like a “regular” cream on my face.

I kind of assumed my skin would be as all things promised by this mask – glowing, refreshed, softened, radiant…the verdict is: no it wasn‘t. This mask is fine – my skin feels ok hydrated the next day. But that is really it. No big “wow” or glow or radiance or anything else. I really feel I was cheated and this mask is absolutely not worth its price.

I haven‘t really used that many products from Dior and after this mask I know that I won‘t.

Ole Henriksen Berry Nurturing Gel Mask Review

s1910751-main-hero

Pros:

Actually the price – for once – since you need so little per use, this jar can last you for a year or more.

Cons:

Doesn‘t provide “deep hydration” – but rather has a brightening effect, which not always is enough in a rough winter climate.

More:

I don‘t have much experience with Danish Ole Henriksen products, but I like his smiley face and eternal sunshine optimism. Plus my friends use Ole and his partner as an exemple when he forces me to make plans weeks in advance (apparently Ole and his partner use their calendar to map out their romantic gatherings which is foreign to a spontaneous time anarchist like myself). Anyways – this mask makes me feel like I‘m in a spa – it smells lovely of lavender and despite being a gel, is not sticky at all. The effect: my skin feels refreshed and brightened after use, and my skin very smooth. Minus: if you need deep hydration during the cold months this is not sufficient.

Sisley Express Flower Gel Mask Review

71uogloqv0l-_sl1500_

Pros:

The tube lasts for a looong time  – about a year when using it 3 times a week.

Cons:

No effect of “smothered features”.

More:

You all know that I love my masks, period. And part of why I love them is the ritual of application – the feeling of being pampered and taking good care of my skin. This mask kind of robs me of this feeling – since applying it feels like applying a gel like cream, which gets absorbed incredibly fast. I know that one can use this mask as a 3 minute cure (which works great) – but since it cost me a small fortune I prefer using it as an overnight remedy.

The effect: my skin feels very soft and hydrated afterwards, can‘t say that it‘s really glowing – but I think you need much for then just a mask to get that (tons of sleep, sunshine and water). Basically this is a good mask if you want a quick bomb of hydration and enjoy feeling like you are not wearing a mask – for exemple during long flights. The mask promises to “smoothen” your features – don‘t know if they promise to make all my wrinkles disappear – cause that just didn‘t happen.

Cons – obviously the price, and that you can get the same effect of hydration from much cheaper alternatives (see here and here).

Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque Review

Pros:

My skin looks very “clear” the next day.

Cons:

Very tricky to define how skin “removed of pollution”, should look like.

More:

I have read many mixed reviews about this mask – and was a bit unsure if I should get it. But the smell was so fresh I couldn‘t resist (and yes I was travelling in the US where it was much cheaper then in Europe – so I convinced myself this was a “bargain”).

Basically this mask promises to get rid of signs of pollution – problem is that what those signs aren‘t really defined by Kiehls, or made totally clear by any chorus of scientists, at least not yet. I know, that the topic of pollutions effect on skin is starting to emerge in scientific reports and the new “it” topic (the new “sun can damage you skin”), and I‘m sure we will see many new products on the market targeting specifically the effect of pollution – but for now we don‘t really have a visible way of measuring how efficient these anti-pollution products are. If you want an overview of the main themes in reserach in this area right now, this The Guardian article is brilliant.

Conclusion  – this mask is sticky, but smells fresh, can be left on overnight and makes my skin look very clear the next morning. Does it protect my skin against future wrinkles and signs of me living in a polluted capital – don‘t know, but sure hope so!

L’Oréal Purify & Mattify Eucalyptus Clay Mask Review

sk30_3

Pros:

Removes all excess oil from my skin.

Cons:

The smell of eucalyptus is a bit too discreet for my taste.

More:

I got this mask after too much time in the sun – using all that sunscreen on my face not only caused my skin to break out but also made it oily. Normally I have dry skin so I kind of didn‘t know what to do – switching all my products – which target dry skin – to products for oily skin felt like a bit of an economic pit and unnecessary. Therefore I decided to invest in this mask – which is friendly to a low budget – and see what happened.

I like that the mask is easy to apply, and also pretty easy to remove (some mud masks can be hell). It did live up to its promise making my skin look much more matte, and made it feel extremely smooth and soft. About the cleansing part – even though I felt my skin was much softer, it was not by any means cleaner – my blackheads didn‘t disappear at all. So in that sense it doesn‘t do what it promises – but then again, I have never meet a mud mask that does. Overall I was very happy with the results – especially considering the price – now I want my dry skintype back please.

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask Review

peter_thomas_roth_cucumber_gel_mask_5oz_900x900

Pros:

You need a tiny tiny bit per use – so you can use this jar forever.

Cons:

Might have caused an allergic reaction for my poor friend.

More:

I haven’t quit made up my mind of what I think of this mask – on one hand I think it‘s really hydrating, I love that you need very little per use, and it‘s not very sticky (despite being a gel). On the other hand I‘m almost certain it gave my friend an allergic reaction – not a serious one just some redness that passed within a few hours – but still a bit of a killer when one brings this for a fun spa day with girlfriends and one of them turns into a tomato (she had tried it once before – which makes it more plausible, since one doesn‘t get an allergic reaction when using something for the first time). After using this mask I still need a cream and a serum but feel baby smooth, but not 100% covered in terms of hydration. This is a decent mask and you can make it last a year at least, but the result is not that fantastic considering its price.

The Body Shop Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask Review

Pros:

You see an instant result (10 minutes is all you need).

Cons:

Smells a bit like a candy shop.

More:

This is my third mask from The Body Shop‘s new series (read the reviews here and here). This mask contains honey, marula and olive oil – all delicious ingredients which are Fare Trade marked. The mask is supposed to replenish your skin and give it loads of love and nurture.

My impressions: first and foremost the mask smells very sweet but delicious, it is pretty sticky but not a pain to wash off – which is important. The results: it leaves my skin feeling very soft and smooth, and you need very little per use (aka putting on a thick layer won‘t increase its effects – trust me I‘ve tried). I think considering the price this mask is very much worth every penny, making me feel like I‘m in my own spa. If you‘re not a fan of sweet smells, don‘t get it – because it smells kind of like a candy shop.

The Body Shop AMAZONIAN ACAI ENERGIZING RADIANCE MASK Review

Pros:

Yummy flowery smell and nice texture.

Cons:

Doesn‘t give you that “WOW” glow, which one hopes for.

More:

I‘m really struggling not to be too harsh to this mask, but I have high standards when it comes to “miracle glow” potions (this is my secret which I shall never stop using, no empty my wallet is). So I do expect miracles when a mask promises skin texture to appear “refined, clearer and healthier-looking”. Unfortunately my only judge this far has been my granny whom I‘m visiting and she always thinks I look like a princes (even when I have chocolate stains all over my pyjamas and haven‘t showered for 3 days), and she said I look awesome after using this mask.

Back to the facts: this mask smells great of flowers, has small exfoliating particles (guarana seeds) crammed in its yelly texture and is easy to remove, not being overly sticky. Sometimes when I use it, it causes extra blood flow to my face thus making me feel extra glowing, this only happened the first 2 times though. It doesn‘t irritate my skin or cause outbrakes, which is great. Why does it only get 3 stars then? Because yes my skin looks nice and smooth afterwards, but no WOW effect, which we all crave and keep searching for.
