Kiehl’s Nourishing Olive Fruit Oil Shampoo Review

kiehls-olive-fruit-oil-nourishing-shampoo-500ml

Pros:

You can recycle the bottle at your local Kiehl‘s counter and get samples in exchange for it.

Cons:

No shine or hydration – as was promised.

More:

So usually I shop my Kiehl‘s products in the US, since the tax difference makes them pretty overprices in Europe but ok reasonable in the US. But this one I got in Europe, desperate for a new shampoo for my dry hair. I think its true for most of us that our body in general needs more up-keeping in the beauty department during cold winter months: dry skin, dry hair…so I spend most of my annual beauty budget October – February – sheet masks, hair masks, fat body lotions and lip moisturisers – you name it.

This shampoo was bought in a bid to make my hair more hydrated and shiny – because no matter what I do – it always looks pretty dry and lifeless in these months. And since this shampoo promises exactly that (hydration and shine) and contains the right ingredients for it (avocado oil and olive fruit oil) – I awaited success. What did I get? Actually I noticed no real difference after I started to use this shampoo. Not at all. You might say maybe – you are not using the other magic ingredients needed for hair success (hair mask, regular hair cuts, hair oil, conditioner made for your hair type) – and the answer is YES I DO. I use all of the above and a bit more (leave-in conditioner, extra spray on oil for very dehydrated day, a varied diet). So my conclusion for this shampoo is – its pretty useless and I don‘t recommend it to any of you.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Mask Review

04192068_zi

Pros:

Instant hydration.

Cons:

Expensive (at least if bought in Europe compared to the US)

More:

I think Kiehl’s is a brand with very uneven quality – I love their hair mask and coriander face mask. But their hand cream feels like a pharmacy balm which won‘t get absorbed, and their vitamin C serum – which I spent a fortune on – did absolutely nothing for me. But sometimes they really get it right – just like they did with this face mask – which I discovered at random. It feels like a regular face cream when you apply it – so not too thick. It gets absorbed very quickly – and it you see an instant result. Next day my skin looks extremely smooth, plumb and hydrated. Some overnight masks can be very rich causing sensitive skin like mine to break out – but this mask can be used several nights a week without any break-outs or feeling that you “overfeed” your skin with too much goodness.

An obvious minus with Kiehl’s and many other American brands is – that they are more expensive in Europe. The price in the US is completely ok but in Europe buying Kiehl’s is a bit of an extravagance.

Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate Review

PSLRC_VitaminC_50ml

Pros:

The packages lasts for many months.

Cons:

No visible effects what so ever.

More:

I‘ve used this serum for about 10 months now (on and off, during the summer months I was scared to get some kind of reaction due to the vitamin C in the serum and therefore took a break) – and I still don‘t get it. I bought this serum after a long flight when my skin looked super dehydrated (before I started using sheets on flights, now that problem is solved) and I counted my wrinkles and got scared. I‘m 29 and this serum was my first anti-ageing product. When I was leaving the store the girl who just sold me this serum yelled out “btw you have to use sunscreen when you use that serum” – which was a bummer since I don‘t own any creams with sunscreen, so I had to purchase that too. I guess most beauty bloggers know that vitamin C requires you to use sunscreen, I‘m just not one of them. This serum is supposed to :

  • Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, boosts skin radiance and improves texture
  • Helps visibly minimize pores over time for smoother skin

So what is my verdict after these 10 months of use: I‘m clueless. It doesn‘t really provide my skin with any hydration, but gives me a tickling, burning sensation upon application – making my brain think that there are some active ingredients in it, and that it‘s “working” on removing my wrinkles.  Removing wrinkles is an impossible task, unless your name is botox, so actually I see – not much difference. And no extra glow either. So I‘m pretty disappointed. The only positive is that a package lasts for long but that‘s all. Won‘t repurchase this one.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Review

1690277

Pros:

Does what it promises and suits almost all skin types.

Cons:

I’m not too fond of the lavender smell (- like the rest of the bloggers on this side).

More:

This is a classic and for good reasons! I use this daily wintertime or as a weekly treatment during other times of the year – just to get an extra hydration boost. When I’m really dry I layer it on top of a water-based moisturizing serum, underneath my nightcream. My skin loves it! Since you only need a couple of drops it last for a long time which is comforting considering the price. I have tried other face oils from other “hyped” brands bit keep coming back to my little blue bottle year after year.

Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque Review

3605971316760

Pros:

Feels very soothing and hydrating.

Cons:

Is a bit sticky.

More:

This is definitely my favourite buy of 2017 to this day. I got this masque as a treat to myself on a trip to New York as a treat and to celebrate new beginnings: new job, new plans, new ambitions and a lot of knowledge from mistakes I made in 2016 (it was a year on standstill full of emotions – and I‘ve decided to make 2017 easier for myself and my surroundings). Surely all my new hopes and promises should come with extra glowing skin I thought…and this masque did not disappoint.

The masque has a gel-like consistency, which feels a bit sticky but very pleasant and soothing on my skin. You use it for 5 minutes and I saw an instant result after the first use: my skin feels very hydrated and look glowing. Also I‘m a fan of the ingredients: aloe vera and calendula are known to have a calming effect on skin. This mask gives me the feeling of being in a spa and I love it.

I have used the Kiehls algea face masque and was a fan too – thought I don‘t think it‘s sold anymore. Though I have mixed feelings about Kiehls and think they make great and not soo great stuff – them seem to know how to make great face masques.

THE BEST AND WORST BEAUTY PRODUCTS OF 2016 – THE COMPLETE LIST

d6aa3d3610ac68e64741c200ad519a0b

Happy new year lovelies, we have made a small list of what we loved and worshipped this year:

The facial oil of this year that brought our face out of the winter darkness..

This is where we got out grapefruit fix from in 2016…

The splurge of the year – which was well worth it..

This body oil made our bathroom feel like a warm coconut beach vacation all year long

The lavender oil that puts us to bed like babies was a favourite during this sleep deprived year.

This serum made our year a biiiiit prettier

The budget product of the year was … look here.

The hair brush which became our favourite hair thing in 2016..

…but this one also did wonders to our hair.

And WHAT WE DID NOT LIKE (wasted our money on):

The powder from hell…

The face mask which did nothing of what it promised (see the full list of face masks we won‘t repurchase here).

The ecological lemongrass disappointment of 2016 goes to this shea body butter

This rose lip balm made us (and our wallet) very very sad.

The scrubb which robbed us and made no difference to out skin!

The Kiehl‘s disappointment of the year was this one.

The foundation that made us look beyond unnatural and was just not worth a penny of our hard earned salary.

Thank you for a great 2016 and we are looking forward to guide you through the beauty jungle for another marvellous year!

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk and Honey Wipped Body Butter

Pros:

Gets absorbed very fast and makes my skin very soft.

Cons:

When your boyfriend asks why you smell of butter you start questioning the smell of this body butter…

More:

I have been using this body butter half of the summer, and kind of loving it…that is until my boyfriend leaned over one morning and asked “how come you already smell of butter?” (referring to my good appetite, I never say no to a croissant on vacation). This body butter has a very rich texture, smells a mix of vanilla and sun lotion, sinks in very fast and makes my skin silky smooth and you need little per use. You decide if you like the smell (my boyfriend doesn‘t).

Kiehl’s Smoothing Oil-Infused Leave-in Concentrate Review

Pros:

Makes hair frizz free.

Cons:

Doesn‘t work as well on wet hair as promised.

More:

Basically I randomly strolled by the Kiehl’s counter, and wanted to check out the amino acid line, when the Kiehl’s lady sold this hair treatment to me by saying “my hair would look like yours (dry and tired) if I wasn‘t using this product”. I know seriously worst line EVER, but this oil smelled soo good (mix of vanilla and chocolate that actually works), that I gave it a try. Results: the bottle is pretty small, so if you want it to last you can‘t use that much per time, which is fine even when you have biiig biig hair like me. And if you use too much your hair will look a bit like spagetti (very bad look unless you are the fourth lost member of TLC). It does really give a nice and polished look, which lasts for a few days, and feels rather like a serum then an oil. My only regret is that I didn‘t tell the sales lady off, and waited til my BF went to the US on another work tripp so I could get it much cheaper (buy Kiehls in the US people the prices in Europe are rubbishy high).

Kiehl‘s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate Review

Pros:

Nice texture and my skin feels very hydrated.

Cons:

Price price price and that it takes a while to get absorbed.

More:

So in the past I have been pretty harsh on Kiehl‘s (read my reviews here and here), though in general I quit like the idea of the brand (free samples for everyone and nice salespeople), they just never seem to get it right according to me.

I was recommended this serum by a friend, and was pretty sceptical (so was Make Up Alley), but I needed a new serum and I trust my beauty oracle friend blindly so I though I‘d give it a go. And seriously, I was happy I did. This serum makes my skin look flawless, no matter what I eat (I get a zit approximately 20 minutes after intake of chocolate and this month I have really been working it..)..and after I started to use this serum – nothing, not even after a whole day of binge eating. Of course I also blame it on my hormones, being in check, but I am seriously impressed. It‘s easy to apply, since it kind of slides on my skin. It works well when I layer cremes on top of it, and it‘s texture is very pleasant. It promises to smooth the appearances of fine lines though that I haven‘t noticed, another minus is that it takes a while for it to dry in. But I am a fan, thought this does not mean that I am in any way less sceptical of Kiehl‘s due to past experiences….!  (yes I have liked things from them before too I admit..check out reviews here and here)
