MAC STUDIO FINISH SPF 35 CONCEALER Review

oil3

Pros:

The package lasts for years.

Cons:

You can‘t apply it unless you have a good eye cream as a base.

More:

First and foremost I have been using this concealer for a good 1 year, and I still have more then half the package left. I definitely like this concealer more then my previous one (Mac Select Moisturecover concealer), but it still has a lot of minuses. You have to use your fingers when applying it, which is a bit unhygienic. You can also spend your money on an extra brush – which I didn‘t do.

When applying this concealer you have to have a layer of a good eye cream underneath, otherwise you really can‘t apply it at all – it gets all caked up. I have tried layering it over several different eye creams and only one really worked (my favourite Vichy eye cream). Does it cover well? It covers ok – I don‘t notice my dark circles throughout the day, but it could definitely cover more – since I can see a hint of them after applying the concealer. Also if your skin is sensitive it might not appreciate you piling on concealer on top of a fat layer of eye cream – though this way you will actually remember to apply eye cream (which for me is a bit of a regime “for old people” hence it took me a while getting used to it).

I choose the shade of my concealer with a Mac sales person and honestly sometimes it feels like the part I‘m covering up is shining right back at me – like the color is too bright, and I have to spend a few extra second smudging it in, so it fits in with the color of the rest of my face.

Overall I must say that this concealer could give better coverage, but I still have loads left so I will keep on using it…til I bump into a perfect concealer (in my friends make-up bag) and fire this one.

ACO Sun Mousse Active Spf 30 Review

medium_aco-sun-mousse-active-spf30-26775

Pros:

Odourless.

Cons:

Makes ones skin very sticky after application.

More:

My mum gave me this sunscreen mousse before I went on vacation. Thank god mum doesn‘t read my blog cause I have to honestly say – this mousse is pretty darn bad. It does protect one from the sunny, but your skin feels beyond sticky and one just gets uncomfortable. First and foremost, the texture of this mousse is a bit like its supposed to be put in your hair and not on your body (its not a “soft” mousse – if that expression makes any sense). If you try to apply it on dry skin you will never be able to distribute it evenly – so you have to first go in the water. Thirdly – the cream never gets properly absorbed so you walk around all sticky – a major no for the beach. Therefore I will never ever buy this mousse again (sorry mum!). It also gets a low rating in the value for money category since its hard to evaluate how much mousse you need and end up getting to much per spritz.

Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Dry Oil Spf 12 Review

450

Pros:

Very water resistant.

Cons:

Hard to apply evenly.

More:

We are continuing this months theme of sunscreens (please summer cant you come sooner?). I got this sunscreen in the US for a fairly ok price. The first half of the spray bottle I used up in a few days since its very unpractical and you get way more then you wanted. So basically its a very unpractical bottle and the oil is hard to apply, so you use way to much per use – and end up feeling pretty “oiled up” and uncomfortable – which is what one fears when buying anything with the words “oil” and “sun” in it. The oil smells great of coconut, which is fantastic if you are into that – but dont expect your man to be intersted in using this one (I never meet one who wants to smell like a coconut dream really).

The only thing I really like about this oil is that its water resistant (80 minutes in water) and didn‘t make my face break out in pimples (which many oils do). The bottle lasted me for about 1,5 weeks of everyday use.

Eksperience 6-Vitamins Cocktail Filler Review

boost-6-vitamins-cocktail-filler

Pros:

Moisturises my hair well.

Cons:

Not sure vitamins can be absorbed by dead materia – aka your hair.

More:

I like the idea of using hair products one can leave-in (cause I‘m lazy let‘s face it and I feel very economic – no waste of product since its all left in). This vitamin boost filler comes in a glass jar, and is usually sold at salons – I consider myself taking a big “step-up” using salon products – which is new to me. It is supposed to rebuilt and give loads of moisture to the hair. I haven‘t been able to find information online if our hair can actually absorb vitamins – since its dead materia- but I‘m desperate and I‘ll put anything in my dry hair that sounds healthy (vitamins are good for you to eat – why not put it in the hair? I know blond logic).

My verdict – you only need a little per use. It doesn‘t make your hair greasy and it makes my hair feel very moisturised – though you can‘t replace your conditioner with this filler  – you need more.

#LIPGLAM Review

lipglam-lbnllb-100-natural-lip-balm-12ml-2907-p

Pros:

Makes my lips soft instantly.

Cons:

The effect doesn‘t last for 8 hours and I reapply this lip balm often.

More:

This little fellow has been my friend through many of my nightshifts – saving my dry lips and hands many many times. First and foremost, when I choose a lip balm it has to be practical – easy and hygienic to apply (no glass jars that you have to stick your fingers into). Secondly I need instant effect – working many night shifts means my skin dries out – and I can go from having perfectly fine lips in the afternoon to deep painful ultra dry cracks the next day. Thirdly, I always use some kind of balm as a base before lipstick application – sometimes even playing around mixing two different colours – which is possible when you use a balm base.

This lip balm is makes my lips and skin instantly soft, and the effect lasts a few hours (though not eight hours as promised). It is a great base when applying lipstick. The package is light and easy to apply. The lip balm doesn‘t really smell of anything which I also like and is free from parabens. The package says you can also use it for eyebrows, rashes, dry cuticles and split ends – which I haven‘t tried – only used it on my hands and lips (if you have tried these other applications – leave a comment and let me know how you liked it).

Maria Nila True Soft Masque Review

maria-nila-true-soft-masque-3

Pros:

100% vegan ingredients.

Cons:

Smells a big heavy.

More:

I must admit that one knows that life is great when one of your “problems” is that your hair is too dry and coarse. Seriously I feel ridiculous even now – writing that this is a “problem”. But anyways – those of you following the blog know that my hair plays me loads of tricks and I‘m constantly on the lock-out for new stuff to make it look like I have a Kate Middleton stylist following me (the stylist would have to be a hippy and free soul though – Kate‘s hair is way too perfect in my opinion).

I have never tried anything from Swedish Maria Nila before but was pretty impressed with the following: their stuff is produced in Sweden (yey), contain 100% vegan ingredient and are free of sulphates and parabens.

This mask is very creamy, smells nice (though a bit heavy) and makes my hair super super smooth, plus you need very little per use. I really enjoy when you apply a masque and can feel how your hair becomes super easy to detangle and smooth within minutes.  It‘s a keeper for me – if your hair is pretty fluffy from the beginning it might not have the effect you wish though.

Banana Boat Sport Sunscreen SPF 15 Review

e9ee7224-db93-4e87-b9ce-2cf24189faf7_1-f2619dad6227636dd4cec60117e2cb38

Pros:

Feels super light on my skin.

Cons:

The price.

More:

Continuing this months theme of reviews of sunscreen…this is probably my favourite sun screen ever!!! In general I hate using sunscreens (but I do of course) – I always feel like running into a shower after I spray myself with these sweet smelling oils and potions. This sunscreen was completely different though. It feels superlight, gets absorbed instantly and the scent is very discreet (very unisex). Doesn‘t stain my close and you can actually wear it outside of the beach and not feel like your skin is made of coconut glue. Its price is a bit high – at least where I got it (in Anguilla – and island where everybody is rich and over 60), so I don‘t actually know in which countries it is sold normally and how much it costs if its not imported from far far away.

ACO MOISTURISING SUN LOTION SPF 30 Review

aco-sun-lotion-300ml-bigsize

Pros:

After using this lotion I dont need to use a body lotion – it works like a two in one.

Cons:

This lotion takes a while to get absorbed.

More:

Lovely readers, summer is just around the corner and therefore this month is all about the sun and how you protect yourself from it. Therefore we will try to squeeze in as many reviews of sun lotions as possible. How did she manage to review so many sun lotions living in Scandinavia you ask ? Because it certainly ain‘t summer there yet (and you are completely right about that! Some years the summer doesn‘t really show up here at all and you have to spend July under an umbrella pretending that rain is nice too). Well – i took a small vacation in January this year – two months to be precise – and had plenty of opportuneties to review all my yays and neeeeeeis of the sun protection creams I went through. So here we go: this lotion gives good protection against the sun, it also works as a body lotion so one doesn‘t have to apply that since your skin is baby soft after a day at the beach with this sun lotion. A bottle also lasts long which is a plus and price is budget friendly. What is the minus? It takes a while to get absorbed and therefore one may feel a bit sticky – a very unwelcome feeling on the beach.

The best budget beauty products – the complete list

pg-116-june-issue-kate-moss-vogue-29apr13-patrick-demarchelier_b_1080x720

We think that beauty should be simple – one doesn‘t have to spend tons of money to look pretty and feel happy. We all know that the best advice to look and feel splendid are free – tons of sleep, a lot of water and keeping a happy mind. But of course we are no strangers to using a little help – and since we rather spend our money on lattes and pretty dresses we wanted to share our list of budget products that makes us feel like a million bucks for a lot less…

  1. Smooth skin is number one for me personally and though I like expensive lotions and potions I always keep coming back to my favourite budget oilbaby oil – makes your skin fantastically smooth and costs next to nothing (pssst apparently sweet almond oil from the baby department at the french pharmacies is a well kept secret of french beauty..).
  2. If you are one of those girls (or boys) who are into a polished look a good hair brush is a must – the HH Simonsen wet brush – saved my hair and I have been using it ever since. Being ridiculously cheap (around 15 dollars, the cost – per – use is pretty sweet) it is one of my best budget buys EVER.
  3. Since happiness is a must for beauty – in our opinion – at least if you want that glowing  fantastic va-va-voom beauty. I get that from many things in life but one of the is a good relaxing shower (repeat after me: its the small things in life…) – and the Le Petit Marseilles Miel de Lavande shower cream – is my favourite shower gel. This one is hard to find outside of France, costs next to nothing (3 dollars), makes my skin super soft but best of all – smells fantastic of lavendar.
  4. For me a great hair oil is a staple and the Orofluido hair oil – has saved my dry hair. It costs around 20 dollars, but a 100 ml bottle lasted me for about 2,5 years so I still consider it a great investment.
  5. Finally even when on a budget an extra a bit unnecessary but oh so indulgent beauty product can make your bathroom feel a bit more extravagant – that one product for me has been  my bottle of Avene face water – which has stayed with me for the past 2 years. Yes it feels a bit stupid to pay for water, but my bottle has lasted me for over 2 years and god does it feel great to splash ones face with some thermal water and march out to meet the day ahead.
